Welcome
It’s no secret. Many boys and young men hate the idea of therapy or even just talking about their feelings.
My goal is to help your son uncover his true potential and lead a life that you and your son want to celebrate. I get why many young men hate the idea of therapy and I have a deep understanding of what it takes to get most of them invested in therapy.I’ve been working almost exclusively with boys, young men, and their families for over 15 years. During that time, my work has always been informed by the latest research in neurobiology.
My compassion, good-humor, and open-mindedness creates a safe therapeutic atmosphere wherein youth and families feel comfortable to explore, understand, and unburden themselves of their most pressing problems.
I’ve found that in solution-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), kids gain greater insight and skills to face the pressures and mental health concerns that burden boys of all ages today. I also use supporting techniques to help young men identify their values and change their relationship to problems — so they don’t let their problems define them, and we usually end up talking about feelings.
While I can't eliminate all of your son’s problems, I can help him develop skills to be ready for better problems. In terms of better problems, for example, consider that your son being uncertain about which friend to hang out with is a better problem than a debilitating social anxiety.
I have a guiding philosophy that youth and families are experts in their own lives. The work that I do is collaborative.
It varies by age but therapy usually requires some parental participation. If your son and family feel overwhelmed or distant from each other, I take a fresh look at your family’s unique strengths and build on these to work through conflict, reconnect, and re-establish joy as a daily practice.
If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation, mental health concern, or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your child and family's life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
